Adebayo, Ajibola, Fatoumata Crowned Lakowe Lakes Golf Champions

Four-handicapped, Tunji Adebayo has reclaimed the Lakowe Lakes Golf Men’s Club Championship honour for 2022. Fatoumata Coker completed a treble to pick the ladies’ prize last weekend at the 36 holes event in Lagos.

Blazing Adebayo had returned 77, on the opening day of the event to set himself up for an easy cruise in the closing round, where he coasted home with 74 to stand three shots clear of the title.

“It’s a beautiful feeling coming back to lift this title after some denials in the recent past.” He said after lifting the winner’s trophy at the event.

“Golfing at Lakowe is just another experience on its own, it provides us with the very best of nature and we must commend the operators of the facility for not compromising on quality. I also want to give credit to the friendly atmosphere here,” added.

Vitus Ezenwa, spotting handicap seven, was runner-up behind Adebayo. He defeated Hector Okposo on countback at the two days event. Oluwole Abegunde returned the best net score at the event with 144, a level-par net score.

Golf Operations Manager at Lakowe Lakes Golf Estate, Femi Olagbenro, said that this year’s event is the best in the series so far and also reflects the effort they had put in to keep the course at its best.

“ We are pleased to see the quality of the turnout, from the players and it is very key to us to have the players compete in the best condition possible and have fun as well. Our goal is to offer the best lifestyle and sporting experience possible.”  He said.

The event was supported by: Mixta Africa, Mainstream Foundation, Standard Chartered Bank, NNPC/Chevron JV, Hydropolis Investment Limited, Sparkle, OPAS, Geregu Power PLC, and DEL.

Fatoumata Coker, defending champion of the lady’s honour who completed a treble, shoving aside Njide Ndili. “It is such a pleasure to make it the third in a row. I enjoy the support I get from fellow players, and the serenity of the facility here keeps me coming back for this event,” she said.

Other top players at the event include; Jae Hee Lee who won the lady’s net prize and Prince Yemi Ajibola who carted home the veteran’s award with his level par score at the event

The Lakowe Golf Club Championship is the crowning event for the club for the golfing year and also forms the basis for ranking the players ahead of the next season.
